April Newsletter, 08

Greetings from Madang!!!  Once again thank you so much for your prayers and financial support.  We have seen favor and blessing from the Lord in our daily life and ministry.

This month Paul attended, spoke, and taught a workshop at the Momase Regional Youth conference.  Momase stands for provinces in PNG, Morobe, Madang, and Sepik.  Hundreds of young people attended this conference at a village called Gabensis in Morobe.  The highlight of the conference was the water baptism.  Over one thousand people came to watch the 32 youth get water baptized.  As the baptism started, the Holy Spirit fell and every single person being baptized was also receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit.  One youth pastor, sensing God’s presence stood up and preached the gospel, giving all the onlookers an opportunity to get saved and water baptized.  Soon, pastors were praying with people on the river’s edge to accept Christ into their heart.  Then they would go into the water where Paul and other leaders would baptize them and they would receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit at the same time.  When it was all said and done, 90 people were baptized!  Praise God!  Paul was also paid compliments for being the “white man” that didn’t mind bathing in the river with everyone else and sleeping in the hut with the other youth leaders.

After lots of little processes and lots of little stories of red tape, paperwork, money, waiting, and Paul spending hours on buses, we got our shipment and bought a car, all in a weeks time. PRAISE THE LORD!! Our shipment has helped make our flat feel like home, and the boys were happy to see their toys again. God provided us with a great deal on a car.  We bought a used Toyota Hilux, basically a double cab Tacoma that is 4wd and diesel. Thank you all for your contributions towards our startup budget that helped towards purchasing this vehicle.

We are realizing more and more that being a missionary is loving people, building relationships, and serving them as Christ would.  Carina is daily outside with the boys learning pidgin (she can now converse) and getting to know the other pastor’s wives that are attending the bible school.  She has begun handing out vitamin C to children and adults who are sick due to lack of nutrition.  Tuesday nights is “movie night at the missionary’s house” where all children from the bible school and neighborhood kids (24 on average) come and watch a veggietales and have cookies and juice.  With the arrival of our shipment we were able to give many of the little boys much needed clothing.  Carina has begun to help organize and resource the preschool as well as help train teachers.  She has also started teaching music on Thursdays to the preschool children.  Carina has taught them how to make instruments using bottles and rocks, coconut shells and bamboo.

Thank you all for your prayers. We have been told that Mason and Ezra are becoming Papua New Guinean.  We love it here!

Blessings to all of you,  The Greers
