June Update

Greetings from Papua New Guinea!

The last few months have been extremely bust for us as Carina and I have been hosting several missions teams that have come to serve here at Living Light Foursquare Church.  We are continually blessed by these missions teams who sacrifice time, money and comfort to come here and minister selflessly to the people of PNG. This month we’ve  been hosting a team from Foursquare Ignite (top right: Team leader Kalli and one of the church youth dressed in tribal clothes). The team was able to participate with me and other staff pastors at a crusade in the Hohola settlement. It was a powerful time seeing hundreds of starving, homeless people living in the settlements desperate for Jesus.  Ignite was able to see many people receive Jesus and get filled with the Holy Spirit.  The team also ministered at Faith Club and Hope Kids regularly and we able to pray for several children to receive healing from sickness (bottom right: praying for settlement children).

Wendy and her new doll

Wendy has been growing so much this month, she continues to be our worshiper and dancer.  She has been memorizing scripture at school and comes home everyday reciting the scriptures to Carina.    Carina’s mom sent Wendy her first doll this month (dolls are expensive in PNG) and its brought tears to our eyes watching her love and care for her first dolly.

Carina and I have both had the opportunity this month to teach and minister to the Foursquare leaders here in the central province of PNG. The woman gathered for a 3 day leadership training where Carina was one of the speakers and I have continued to work with Ps Magi doing monthly leadership training for Foursquare Sr. Pastors.   Leadership development is a very important role as missionaries and we feel honored to train up these men and woman that are so passionate to serve the Lord and win souls.

I have now completed my first semester as principle of a Bible College.  To be perfectly honest, I felt ill equipped to take on this great work.  That was mostly due to the fact that I had never done anything like that before.  I find that following and obeying God often requires us to do things that we ourselves feel ill equipped to do.  With enrollment  at 37 students I am honored that God has called me and used me to lead the Bible College and partner what the school is doing with the church planting movement in the Central Province of PNG.  As the students grow in the wisdom and knowledge of God so too does their passion for Him and His Kingdom work (right: Bible College students evangelizing to remote villages and holding church services).  That is so much fun to watch happen in people’s lives.   Even though I still feel a little under qualified (or a lot) for what I do, man do I love it.  All the students have a real hunger for the Lord and for ministry.  Many more churches are being built and new fellowships are starting.  The semester break is a chance for more students to enroll into the Bible College.  Please continue to pray  for God to call more workers of the harvest forth for PNG, if you or your ministry (men’s group, youth group or children’s church), would like to sponsor a student to come to school please see post below called “Sponsor a Bible College Student”.  You will receive a picture and testimony from your Bible College student and regular updates on how God is using them to plant churches in PNG.   As always, please do not feel pressure to give.

Thank you all for your prayers, love and support of our family and the work here in Foursquare Papua New Guinea.

New Life

Wendy has now been with us about 6 weeks and she never stops smiling.  She has blossomed into a confident, funny, loving little girl who loves to sing and dance.  Some fun things that have been an adjustment to us all, for example Wendy only speaks tok-pisin.  Carina loves reading bible stories to the kids at night, and she’s learned to translate the stories from English (for  Mason and Ezra to understand) to tok pisin so Wendy can understand.   We often laugh at how much translating we are doing during the day to help the kids understand each other.  Our hearts have been broken so much for Wendy this month as many of the pastors have told us stories of Wendy’s mother who loved Jesus and backslid and then died of AIDS.  We are asking for you to agree with us in prayer for Wendy, that the generational sin will be cut off from her life, and that she will be a mighty, righteous woman of God all the days of her life.

Radio ministry in PNG

On another note I have continued to have opportunities to share on the radio on Sunday Nights.  Bible talk back is a two hour radio show on FM 100 which is the largest secular radio station in the country.   The various pastors and leaders of the Foursquare Church here (headed up by Pastor Bill Page) share weekly on this radio station and we have seen many people saved, healed, and people all over the country being taught from the word of God.  Praise the Lord!

Carina and Pastor Maria -Pastor of Faith Club and Hope Kids

Ps Maria and Carina have become very close friends and Ps Maria now calls her “daughter”.  They both have a heart for these starving orphaned children in Port Moresby.  Carina is helping serve alongside Ps Maria in overseeing the administration of the Hope Kids (sponsorship program for medical and educational needs of orphaned and abandoned children).  Carina continues to go and minister weekly to the widows and the settlement children at Faith Club.

CFNI TEAM

This month we have been hosting a team of 16 bible school students from Christ for the Nations in Dallas.  We have loved having them be apart of the many ministries here. It’s a joy seeing first hand the blessing a team is to the people of PNG.  As they ministered at Faith Club over 100 children came down for prayer.  The alter was full of kids all ages, on their knees worshiping God and crying out to Him.

Rioting in Papua New Guinea

During this past month there has been widespread rioting and looting in many of the big cities including Port Moresby.  Most of the violence has been aimed an Asian immigrants for several reasons.  First, it was recently discovered that there is a large number of Asians working without visas or with expired ones.   There are quite a few large Chinese businesses here and the general sentiment is that the Chinese are not doing anything to put money back into the country of PNG but rather making money off of the country and mistreating the people of PNG while they are at it.  Since this sentiment already existed before the immigration issues became public, it erupted into violence.  Please pray for peace in the cities and for safety for all people.  Also pray for this issue between the Asian immigrants and the people of PNG.  Keep praying for the Political leaders of PNG who are in charge of foreign businesses and immigration that they would lead with integrity and honesty.  We have received a warning of security from the US embassy, but please know we are safe and praying for God’s hand of protection upon the people of Port Moresby.

Thank you all for your prayers, love, and support.  Blessings, Greer Family!

Paul and Robby ministering together at Living Light Foursquare Church

Paul and Robby ministering together at Living Light Foursquare Church

This month has really flown by– so much exciting ministry makes us feel so privileged to be ministering here! Our month began with a visitor! A young man from our church in Anaheim arrived and its felt like we have family here with us. Robby has been like another son to us for the past 5 years and we are so excited to have him here to help us in PNG. He has been joining us in all of our ministry this month as we all minister together at Faith Club, Bible College, church planting, and Living Light Academy school.

This month we also have had another visitor come into our home who will be with us for the next 4 months. As we mentioned last month Carina has become very close to a little girl named Wendy– a homeless orphan who comes to the Faith Club feeding ministry. We have begun to sponsor Wendy through the Hope Kids Sponsorship program at our church, which provides monthly food and pays school fees. As we began to hear more of the story of this precious 4 year old orphan, God gave us the scripture Matt. 25:34-40 and we felt God tell us to take this little one in till the Hope Kids Home for orphans is completed at the end of July. Wendy has been with us now for 2 weeks and we have had the privilege of daily loving this neglected, ignored and starving child. Mason and Ezra are loving having another child in the house. Wendy loves to help Carina cook and clean while they sing tok pisin worship songs together. The picture to the left shows Wendy before she came to see us and after. Even though we will only have her living with us for the next few months we feel like God has ordained this time for us to protect her, feed her, and show her the love of God in a family.

Bible College student ministering on Foursquare Church planting trip in Central Province

We have been seeing a real break out of spiritual gifts in the central province Foursquare churches the last few months. I have been doing monthly training with the sr. pastors of the Foursquare Central Province churches with Ps Magi and we’ve started seeing God move in mighty ways in the churches and the church-planting trips from the Bible College. The Holy Spirit is moving mightily here in PNG and I love seeing the Spirit move in even the most remote villages. Please continue to pray with us for more of the gospel to be share and for more people to discover the Spirit-filled life in Christ.

Easter Sunday Baptism service- Bible College student, David Kila is getting baptised!

Easter Sunday here at Living Light Foursquare was a major highlight! After the service we baptized over 60 people!! It was incredible seeing God move in the hearts of the young and old, men and woman and even married couples, all coming together to get baptized. The call for baptism was given and immediately after the service men, woman, teenagers, and even married couples came forward in their Easter Sunday clothes and were baptized. Carina and I were in awe of the spiritual hunger the people here in Papua New Guinea.

Hula Village- this is the house we slept in as a family on the water- What an adventure!

·

We took a trip out to Hula village in central province with Ps Magi and his family this past month. It was such an adventure for our whole family. Carina and the boys have not slept in a village and to make it really fun we slept in house that is built on the water (see picture). Mason, and Ezra loved sleeping in this house (without electricity or plumbing) and we loved spending time with the village pastors. All of us can’t wait to go back!

We want to thank all of you for your continued prayer and support of our family and the ministry here in Papua New Guinea. Carina and I believe that true joy and happiness comes from being obedient to God in what He’s called you to do. Thank you for helping us serve the Lord!
